Photo Dives – Okinawa Scuba Diving

whip coral goby (Okinawa Scuba Diving)
Hi Miho’s here.
Today, I went out diving with Naoki and Naoji to explore our dive spot , Inanbishi to practice underwater photo shooting.
The one above is by Naoji – it’s a silhouette of a whip coral goby. They are tiny, like 3cm long.
You can find many whip corals and sea pens here.
They have tiny shrimps or gobies living on them.  Don’t forget to go close and find them!
pigmy sea dragon (Okinawa Scuba Diving)
This one is by me… Not so good.
It’s a pigmy sea dragon.
It moves in between a couple of rocks to live on, but usually easy for us to find it. But very hard to take a picture – especially it was surgy today.
Here is another interesting picture – can you tell what it is?

stone fish (Okinawa Scuba Diving) Be careful, they are very poisonous – this is why you don’t want to tough anything in the ocean, including stones….

Blue Ribbon Eel at Inanbishi – Okinawa Scuba Diving

blue ribbon eel (okinawa scuba diving) Today, we had another good dive at Inanbishi.
Although the dive spot is so close to the Main Island, we have a variety of sea life here.
The most popular one is this Blue Ribbon Eel, which has been living here for some years.  Right now, he (she??) is at around 25m deep, a little far from where we always anchor the boat, so you need to be a good diver to go watch him (her??) and take good pictures.

Sunabe diving and dive site research at Inanbishi

sea fan crab (Inanbishi)
Today, Naoji took two girls diving at Sunabe reef,  near by our shop in Chatan.
Naoki and Akira dove Inanbishi to do some dive site research.

Whenever we have free time, we just put our gear on and explore the dive sites even we have dove there many many times.
The ocean has different face each time we dive there – we can always find something new and interesting, that’s why we cannot stop diving.  The picture is by Naoki. Can you tell where the sea fan crab is?

A Huge Table Coral – Our secret dive site!

Hi everyone, it’s Miho here.
Because of the change of wind direction, we couldn’t go to the Kerama Islands – instead, we enjoyed exploring our original dive sites.

Okinawa Main Island

2. Red Marker (Kadena North)
3. Marina 225 (Kadena) – drift dive
Objective: Fun Dives
Weather: Flat
Air: 19C (66.2F)
Water: 22C (71.6F)
Suits: 5mm one piece + hood

We were able to watch many shrimp gobies including ‘White-rayed shrimp goby’ and ‘Black-rayed shrimp goby’ today, because the surge was not very strong.  They live in relatively shallow water, here at around 15m deep, so easy to spend some time taking pictures of them.
At the Red Marker, Noboru found a tiny tiny little sea horse mimicking green leaves on the sandy bottom. You need to have very good eyes to even see it!

Then, we moved to our new dive site, Marina 225.

Takashi named this dive spot this way because of his favorite huge table coral.
Because of water temperature raising caused by global warming and massive outbreaks of crown-a-thorns happend around the Okinawa ocean this past 10-20 years, it seemed like many reefs were dameged quite a bit around the Okinawa Main Island. However, all the corals here, both soft corals and hard corals are big and healthy. You can observe many varieties as well.

Especially this particular table coral (picture above) is big!
It’s 2m25cm big – it seems like these corals survived through many crisis in this ocean.
Be careful, when you dive there, not to land on anything or kick the corals.

This year’s first Kerama Diving

Hi everyone,
Today, we made it to the Kerama Islands for the first time this year.

Kerama Islands
1. Twin Rocks (Kuroshima North)
2. Toma (Zamami Island)
3. Ariga South (Tokashiki Island) – Drift Dive
Objective: Fun Dives

Water: 22C (71.6F)
Suites: 5mm one piece + hood
kerama sponge crub (okinawa scuba Diving)

We started off at our favorite Twin Rocks at the Kuroshima Island.
We were lucky today, for that Twin Rocks are not usually divable in winter, because of north wind – It’s a summer dive spot.
After enjoying lots of anthies swimming like orange flowers, we went diving around the big pinnacle, to find sharks and big tunas.
We also found this cute sponge crub sitting on a rock. You can enjoy wide- to macro, at this dive spot.
We moved to Zamami, and enjoyed macro photo diving checking out garden eels, pink leaf fish, and lots of cleaner shrimps.
Then, we moved back to Tokashiki, and did drift diving over there. Turtles, beautiful sea fans and many many fusiliers.

The second dive, Akira’s team used DPV (Underwater Scooters) to explore the dive site extensively.
This is the new wreck we found recently.
We haven’t identified it as what kind of wreck it is yet.
Would you like to come out with us to check it out?

Miho
