Kuroshima Dives (Kerama Islands, Okinawa)

It was very warm day with south wind, which enabled us to dive the north side of Kuroshima – our favorite drop off and beautiful coral reef, with a  bunch of colorful fish.

Okinawa Scuba Diving Trip (Kerama)

On the way to the Kerama Islands, we saw some whales again.
The one we saw today was jumping!

Today, we had a group of 6, trying our PADI Discover Scuba Diving program, and some certified divers.
Starting off the day at the Kuroshima South, we saw some turtles and sharks just immediately, not expected.
It was a big shark – not like the white tip reef sharks napping under rocks, that big one was swimming around under our boat.
The turtle we saw was a tiny shy one, it swam away very quickly.
We moved to Zamami and Tokashi, to enjoy beautiful reef dives at Ariga and macro dives at Toma.
It was all good dives in the sun.

Akira took two divers  to the Keramas today – good viz dives with healthy coral reef… in addition to it, Akira is very good to find these tiny funny creatures in the water.

The one on the left is a tiny crab having a bag-pack trip with a sea squirt on his back.
Can you recognize the crab underneath?

Here is another one – a sponge crab.
This is again, a tiny crab having a sea sponge on his back.
Those crabs are about 1cm big.
Akira has very good eyes, don’t you think so?

Afternoon Dives at Inanbishi (Okinawa)

We went out in the afternoon with three divers who arrived Okinawa today.
The picture is a type of sea squirts, we always find here.
We call it Ultra Man Sea Squirts.
Because they look like Ultra Man – if you don’t know what it is, that’s Japanese kids’s hero.

A cute pink leaf fish (Okinawa Scuba Diving) Today, we had Roger from Australia.
He used to be a NAUI Instructor, teaching at the ocean around Sydney.
He is 69 years old now – he has been diving 20 years before I was born!! Oh my god, I can’t even imagine how the diving was that long time ago…..
The picture is a pink leaf fish at my favorite rock at Toma. We used to see white ones here until last summer, and all of a sudden we only see this pink one. Leaf fish shouldn’t change their colors according to where they live. Then, this one is different from the ones we used to see? Hmmm…
coral crabs (Kerama)At Kuroshima South, we enjoyed the very healthy reef and dynamic landscapes.
The coral in the picture is Pocillopora damicornis.
Usually, if you look close, you can find coral crabs hiding in there, or some gobies.
We saw many fisiliers, tunas, macros, and purple queens swimming around.
stone fish (Okinawa Scuba Diving) Tomorrow should be another good day for taking a trip to the Kerama Islands. The wind and waves will calm down a lot.
Maybe we can see whales!

Photo Dives – Okinawa Scuba Diving

whip coral goby (Okinawa Scuba Diving)
Hi Miho’s here.
Today, I went out diving with Naoki and Naoji to explore our dive spot , Inanbishi to practice underwater photo shooting.
The one above is by Naoji – it’s a silhouette of a whip coral goby. They are tiny, like 3cm long.
You can find many whip corals and sea pens here.
They have tiny shrimps or gobies living on them.  Don’t forget to go close and find them!
pigmy sea dragon (Okinawa Scuba Diving)
This one is by me… Not so good.
It’s a pigmy sea dragon.
It moves in between a couple of rocks to live on, but usually easy for us to find it. But very hard to take a picture – especially it was surgy today.
Here is another interesting picture – can you tell what it is?

stone fish (Okinawa Scuba Diving) Be careful, they are very poisonous – this is why you don’t want to tough anything in the ocean, including stones….

Blue Ribbon Eel at Inanbishi – Okinawa Scuba Diving

blue ribbon eel (okinawa scuba diving) Today, we had another good dive at Inanbishi.
Although the dive spot is so close to the Main Island, we have a variety of sea life here.
The most popular one is this Blue Ribbon Eel, which has been living here for some years.  Right now, he (she??) is at around 25m deep, a little far from where we always anchor the boat, so you need to be a good diver to go watch him (her??) and take good pictures.

Sunabe diving and dive site research at Inanbishi

sea fan crab (Inanbishi)
Today, Naoji took two girls diving at Sunabe reef,  near by our shop in Chatan.
Naoki and Akira dove Inanbishi to do some dive site research.

Whenever we have free time, we just put our gear on and explore the dive sites even we have dove there many many times.
The ocean has different face each time we dive there – we can always find something new and interesting, that’s why we cannot stop diving.  The picture is by Naoki. Can you tell where the sea fan crab is?

Japanese Pigmy SeahorseWe saw sharks, went through many swim-thrus, and got to the place where Akira found a Japanese Pigmy Seahorse last time he was there.
Yes, he found it again. But last time he saw it, it was white…. is it a different one? or did it change color? Hmmm…
After lunch we enjoyed diving the Red Marker, near our port.
Panda Anemonefish were doing still alright over there.
Miho
